Microfiber Fabric
Ultra-fine microfiber fabric for premium fashion, activewear, and functional textiles - soft, durable, and highly versatile Indian microfiber supplier.
What is Microfiber Fabric?
Microfiber is a synthetic fabric made from extremely fine fibres - typically less than 1 denier (for reference, a human hair is about 20 denier). These ultra-fine fibres are typically made from polyester, nylon, or polyester-nylon blends. The fineness of the fibres creates a fabric that is exceptionally soft, lightweight, and with a very smooth surface. Microfiber can be woven or knitted and has excellent moisture management, stain resistance, and quick-drying properties. In fashion, microfiber is used for premium shirts, activewear, lingerie, and home textiles.
Key Properties
Key properties: ultra-soft and smooth hand feel, lightweight (often 80-150 GSM for apparel), excellent moisture wicking and quick-drying, stain-resistant due to tight fibre structure, good colour fastness, resistant to wrinkles, drapes beautifully, very durable despite lightness. Polyester microfiber is the most common for fashion; nylon microfiber is preferred for premium activewear and swimwear. Microfiber's soft hand feel and performance properties make it popular across many garment categories.
Origin & History
Microfiber technology was developed in Japan in the 1970s by Miyoshi Okamoto at Toray Industries. The technology spread globally and is now produced extensively in India, particularly in Surat (Gujarat) which is India's synthetic fabric capital. Surat produces large volumes of polyester microfiber fabric for both domestic fashion and global export. Indian microfiber is exported widely to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America.
Why Brands Choose Microfiber
Microfiber's premium soft feel at accessible price points makes it attractive for mid-market fashion. For ethnic wear, microfiber sarees and kurtis have a premium silk-like appearance at lower cost. For activewear brands, microfiber's moisture management makes it competitive with more expensive technical fabrics. The home textile market (microfiber towels, bedding) is the largest global segment, but fashion microfiber is a growing category particularly in India's export market.

At Clothwala, we have been in the textile wholesale business since 2018, operating from Surat - India's largest synthetic fabric hub. We work directly with 40+ mills, which means our buyers get factory-level pricing without middleman markup. Every fabric we list has been tested by our team for wash durability, colour fastness, and drape quality before it goes on the website. We ship to garment units, boutiques, and exporters across India with a minimum order of 200 meters.
Buying Tips for Microfiber
Tip 1: For digital printing, always use RFD (Ready for Dyeing) finish fabric. Pre-dyed fabric does not take digital prints cleanly.
Tip 2: Fabric width matters for cutting efficiency. Our 44-inch fabric suits kurtis and blouses, 58-inch works better for sarees and gowns.
Surat's textile market employs over 8 lakh workers directly and contributes Rs 46,000 crore annually to India's economy.
