Nylon Fabric
Strong, lightweight nylon fabric for activewear, outerwear, and technical fashion - India's nylon fabric supplier for performance and fashion brands.
What is Nylon Fabric?
Nylon is a synthetic polyamide fabric known for its strength, lightweight properties, and excellent abrasion resistance. It was the first fully synthetic fibre, developed by DuPont in 1935. In fabric form, nylon is smooth, fast-drying, and resistant to mildew and many chemicals. Common nylon fabric types include woven nylon (for outerwear, bags, and technical wear), nylon tricot (for intimate apparel and activewear lining), and nylon-spandex blends (for performance activewear). Nylon's strength-to-weight ratio makes it excellent for lightweight technical garments.
Key Properties
Key properties: very strong and abrasion-resistant, lightweight, quick-drying and moisture-wicking, smooth and silky surface, resistant to mildew and most chemicals, relatively low breathability (though modern technical nylons have improved this), excellent shape retention, good dye absorption for vibrant colours. Nylon is stronger than polyester of the same weight, making it preferred for applications where strength is critical.
Origin & History
Nylon was developed by DuPont and first used commercially in toothbrush bristles in 1938, then for women's stockings in 1940. Its wartime use for parachutes and ropes cemented its reputation for strength. In India, nylon fabric production is concentrated in Surat, Ahmedabad, and some South Indian clusters. India's activewear export growth has significantly boosted nylon fabric demand. Premium swimwear-grade nylon (particularly for European buyers) is a growing Indian export category.
Why Brands Choose Nylon
Nylon's strength and performance properties make it essential for activewear, swimwear, and technical outerwear. The global athleisure market's growth drives strong nylon demand. For Indian manufacturers, nylon-spandex blends for export activewear to USA and Europe represent a high-value opportunity. Nylon lining fabrics are standard for premium ethnic wear garments. Lightweight ripstop nylon for outerwear and bags is a growing domestic category.
