Twill Fabric
Durable, diagonal-weave twill fabric for workwear, bottoms, and structured fashion - India's premium cotton twill supplier for domestic and export.
What is Twill Fabric?
Twill is a type of textile weave with a pattern of diagonal parallel ribs created by weaving the weft threads over two or more warp threads in a regular offset pattern. This diagonal weave structure makes twill stronger and more durable than plain-weave fabrics of similar weight. Denim is the most famous twill fabric. Other twill fabrics include gabardine, chino, drill, and herringbone. Cotton twill is widely used for workwear, trousers, uniforms, and structured casual wear. The diagonal weave hides dirt and stains better than plain weaves.
Key Properties
Key properties: strong and durable due to diagonal weave structure, characteristic diagonal rib texture visible on the fabric surface, relatively heavy weight (150-300 GSM typical for apparel twill), holds its shape well, more resistant to wrinkles than plain weave, good drape for structured garments, can be soft or stiff depending on fibre and finishing. Cotton twill breathes well; polyester-cotton twill is more wrinkle-resistant.
Origin & History
Twill weave is one of the three fundamental textile weaves (along with plain and satin). It has been used for thousands of years globally. In India, cotton twill has been a significant fabric for workwear and uniform manufacturing. The major centres for twill fabric production in India include Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Ahmedabad. India is a significant global exporter of cotton twill fabric, particularly for workwear and institutional uniform markets.
Why Brands Choose Twill
Twill fabric's durability makes it the material of choice for workwear, uniforms, and bottoms that need to withstand heavy use. India's large workwear and uniform market (corporate, hospitality, industrial) drives strong twill demand. For export, Indian cotton twill is highly competitive for European and US workwear brands. The growing demand for sustainable uniforms has boosted organic cotton twill. Structured twill in fashion coordinates is a growing premium casualwear trend.
